Celebrating the life of
David W. Lowe
November 26, 1957 - August 18, 2016
SAVANNAH - David W Lowe, 58, loving husband, father, grandpa, son, and brother, was born into eternal life on Thursday, August 18, 2016. Dave grew up in Detroit, Michigan, graduating from Sacred Heart High School, earning Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Criminal Justice from Wayne State University, and receiving a commission in the US Army. His military assignments spanned the country and the globe, with his last post at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. After retiring, he continued his life of service as the Director of CSE for the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office. An avid reader, Dave devoured books on military history, baseball, and most importantly, his Catholic faith. A passionate man who lived a life full of conviction and sacrificed for all who knew him, Dave’s mix of quiet wit, sharp sense of humor, and fervent spirituality were truly unique. David Lowe was a warrior for the country, for the underserved children of Chatham County, in his valiant battle with cancer, and will now continue his work as a virtuous warrior for Christ.
Dave was predeceased by his father, Donald W. Lowe and his brother, Douglas W. Lowe. Dave is survived by his mother Lorraine of Dearborn, Michigan; his loving wife Sheila, son Christopher (Erica) and daughter Meghan; grandsons Jacob and Brody; brother Dennis Lowe (Sue) of Farmington Hills, Michigan; uncle Edmund Sperkowski of Dearborn Heights, Michigan; aunt Gerrie Francis of Sterling Heights, Michigan; sister in law Johnna Lowe of Novi, Michigan; brother in law John Kennedy (Ida) of Mauldin, South Carolina; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dave’s family wishes to thank Dr George Negrea and Dr John Pablo, the outstanding staff of Low Country Cancer Care and Savannah Radiation Oncology at the Lewis Cancer Research Pavilion, and the staff of St Joseph/Candler for their outstanding care and kindness.
A visitation will be held Sunday, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, with a Rosary Prayer service at 6:00 PM, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel. Fathers Michael Kavanaugh and Brett Brannen will concelebrate a Funeral Mass on Monday, at 10:00 AM, in St. Peter the Apostle Church on Wilmington Island. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, request that remembrances be made in his memory to the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion Survivorship Fund, 225 Candler Dr., Savannah, GA 31405 or the Mount St. Mary’s Needy Seminarian Fund, 16300 Old Emmitsburg Rd., Emmitsburg, MD 21727.

Mr Lowe was a wonderful man. My husband and I knew Mr. Lowe only through Child Support Services. Last July my husband called Mr. Lowe to get help on a matter and he was so kind and caring. My husband had been paying consistently with money coming out of every check but the CSE still wanted to suspend his license. Mr. Lowe helped us with my husband impending license suspension. Mr. Lowe returned our call promptly and worked with my husband in every way to correct the matter. We are so so sad to learn of Mr. Lowe's passing. We were searching the internet trying to find his contact number to call him and insteadwe found out he has passed away. What a kind man he was, he was used by God to answer our prayers swiftly in a time when we really needed it. We are so grateful for his life. It meant so much for him to help us in our time of desperate need. The Lowe Family is in our thoughts and prayers.
- Hamilton Family, Savannah, GA
I am keeping you and your family in my thoughts, Sheila. I am just so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. What a wonderful memory I will always have of the 3 of us 'skipping school' to go to the Pantheon and St. Catherine's tomb, then having the world's best gelato together!! ''May the angels lead David to paradise, may the martyrs receive him at his arrival and lead him to the holy city Jerusalem. May choirs of angels receive Dave, and with Lazarus, may he have eternal rest.''
- Cindy Organ, San Antonio, TX

To the Lowe Family, thank you for sharing Mr Lowe with us. We both had the honor of working for him. He was a strong leader but deep down we knew he was always watching out for his team. The office will never be the same without hearing him sing "wasted days and wasted nights" as he walked around the office. Those days you just knew everything was alright. May God continue to comfort you.
- Dale and Alison Sylvester, Bloomingdale, Ga
I am sending my prayers and condolences to the family and friends. I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Lowe was a fun guy to work with. May he live forever in the treasurable memories of the family and friends.

I am so sad for the loss of Dave. I know he fought a hard fight to beat this and I was so sad to learn of his passing. He was well respected at DCSS and his passion for the work we do will never be forgotten. He made a great difference in the lives of the children he served. I consider myself enriched for having known him. Blessings and peace to all the family and friends.
- Laura Lee, Dublin, GA
Our thoughts and prayers for the Lowe family. We've had the distinct pleasure of working with Dave for many years with the Division of Child Support Services. He was one of the most dedicated men for the families of the state of Georgia, serving the community in Chatham county. He never liked the soft approach and insisted that enforcement of child support was the main focus needed to support children. Dave was very appreciative of the local community that supported the enforcement efforts that he and his staff took on behalf of families in need. We're sure that the Chatham county office will continue to be motivated to do their very best in honor of his legacy and unending dedication to serve.
- Angelo & Dianne Bonito, Brunswick, GA
Sheila, I extend my deepest sympathy to you and your family on the loss of your husband, David. May he rest in peace. Bernadine Danowski (Cecile's sister)
- Bernadine Danowski, Livonia, MI
I'm so sorry to hear of Dave's passing, he was a very considerate and loving man. My cousins Sheila and John, our prayers go out to you and your family! Dave and Sheila took me to my first concert "Linda Ronstadt" at Pine Knob Michigan around 1975 fond memories of that and visiting at Aunt Francis (Sheilas Mom) house. God Bless you all in this difficult time.
- Jerome (Jerry) and Lisa Soncrant, Menifee , Ca.
Where does someone that was Blessed enough to know Mr. Lowe begin when saying "Goodbye"? I start by saying to Sheila and the rest of his family that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that God gives you peace and that you rest in His promise that you will be together again one day in Heaven. I thank each of you for the sacrifices you made due to Dave's dedication to the OCSS. I had the pleasure and honor of working for Mr. Lowe for many years. There were times throughout those years that we didn't see "eye to eye" - but those times pale in comparison to the ones where I learned from him, laughed with him and even shed a few tears with him! In the final four or so years that I worked along side Dave Lowe, I got to know him better than all the previous years past. We talked about God, I listened to him talk about politics and we shared stories about our lives growing up. He did love to read and never forgot anything that he learned. Dave almost always had a story or some fact about any topic or discussion at hand! That being said, he was a humble man, never wanting to be in the spot light and most comfortable behind the scenes. He was the first person, however, to go overboard making others the center of attention and delivering accolades for hard work or a job well done. My last face to face conversation with Mr. Lowe was one I won't forget. No matter what he was going through he didn't focus on himself, but wanted to know how everything was in my life. We exchanged e-mails several times afterwards, talking about day to day things and the humor he found in the new baseball team name, the Savannah Bananas. Simple conversations that I would not trade for anything. So, I end where I started by asking, "Where do I begin when saying "Goodbye"? Well, I say - Dave- you will be missed by many. I say - thank you for all the lessons learned - some harder than others.....and I say this isn't "Goodbye", but so long for now! I'll see you again one day.... but until then, you get the best seats in the house for any baseball game you choose! Enjoy my friend - you deserve it!
- Martha VanVleck, Savannah, Ga
To the family of David Lowe, I know how tough it is to lose a loved one, I'll miss Mr. Lowe and his sense of humor and his witty intelligence and the conversations we had when I did work at his office. He was a good man and will be missed.
- Daryl Crews, Soperton, GA
Praying for the Lowe Family to feel the peace that passes all understanding in knowing your loved one is safe in the tender keeping of our Lord...remembering Dave's love of Faygo "Red Pop", kielbasa, and of course, baseball! The world has lost a great soul!
- Uncle Ken & Aunt Gerrie, Kevin & Shelly Francis, Uncle Ed Sperkowski, Sterling Heights, MI
I worked with Dave in DCSS for several years and enjoyed our conversations. He was such a nice guy with a great heart - One of the most intelligent and witty people I ever knew. He will be missed by all of his co-workers and child support friends. My deepest sympathy to you all - I know he is rejoicing in Heaven right now.
- Faye Riner, Sandersville, Georgia
I was saddened to hear the news that Mr. Lowe had passed. I worked under him for seven years and he was always helpful when I went to him on my cases. May his family be comforted know that he is no longer in pain and the fact that he has touched so many lives and left a legacy. “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” John 14:1-4
- Merika Burke, Houston, TX
To Mr. Lowe's Family, May The Lord comfort you and our Child Support Family as we say farewell to a well respected and honorable Leader. He taught his family to be reliable and accountable in everything we do. His mission has come to an end but his legacy will never be forgotten. Truly, Chiquita M. Etheridge
- CHIQUITA M ETHERIDGE, POOLER, GA
My sincere condolences to the family of Dave Lowe. He truly is one of those people you don't meet often in this world. His concern and generosity for his co-workers and friends was sometimes hidden by his humility. My prayers are added to those of many others for his family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Lowe family during this time. I didn't have the privilege of working under the direction of Mr. Lowe for a long time. But during the short time I've been at Chatham County Child Support I've seen what a wonderful leader and director Mr. Lowe was. I'm thankful I was able to work with him even if it was for just a few months. The office will truly never be the same. Rest in peace DL2.
- Kristina Wrenn, Savannah, Ga
During my tenure with the Savannah Child Support Division, I came to know Mr. Lowe and always enjoyed visiting with him. I not only admired him greatly for his kindness and fair treatment of those around him but also the class and grace in which he embraced his illness. His thoughts were always positive. On my last day with the division, I went into his office to say good bye. He stood up and shook my hand and told me what an honor it was to have worked with me and that he hoped that I remained in touch. After I left, I did email Mr. Lowe from time to time and he always replied and always made a point to tell me to look at the bright side of life and embrace it. The world has lost a good soul and it needs more people in it like Mr. Lowe. You were not only my boss but, I consider it an honor to add friend. You will be missed.
- Fred Kidd, Savannah, GA

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Lowe Family and the Office of Child Support Enforcement. I know that office will never be the same again. I worked for Mr. Lowe for 8 years and I have always said he is the best boss I ever had. Mr. Lowe would never ask you to do anything that he wouldn't do himself. You will surely be missed! RIP DL2
- Bonny Taylor, Savannah, GA
My condolences to the Lowe Family on the passing of your loved one. May Jehovah God grant you his peace while you await the fulfillment of his promise at John 5:28 [ to resurrect those who have been asleep in death]. May fond memories of David linger in your hearts and bring you peace in the days to come

Words cannot express the hurt that I'm feeling with the news of the loss of Mr. Lowe. I never had the pleasure of meeting his family, but he was one of the most important figures of my life. He took a chance on me out of college and gave me a job that turned into a career that I could never thank him enough for. 15 years later I still enjoyed our daily talks about baseball and football. I am really going to miss walking down that hallway and having him make a joke to me about the Cubs. I am heartbroken that I will not be back in town until after the funeral, but I would love for the family to know how big of a role in my life he played and always will play. His dedication to hard work and accountability was second to none. I am truly sorry for your loss and my family and I owe him for everything that I am today. God Bless him and the family through this tough time.
